This Is My Dad’s!

My wife and I were taking a brisk walk this morning around the neighborhood when we encountered a boy who was about 8. He was out in his front yard playing with a rather large remote control tank. As we walked by, his first proud words were. “This is my dad’s”. Not, “Hello” or “Good Morning”…he seemed so happy that his dad had let him play with this toy that it consumed his thoughts and his interactions with others.

I asked if his dad got it for Christmas and he told us that his father has had it for a long time…and as we kept walking by and beyond him, he kept telling us about the toy.

“It’s a tank!”

“It even has tools inside!”

And when we were about a half a block away we heard a final, faint, “Merry Christmas!”

I was so struck by this kid’s charming attitude…and reminded that I should possess that same mind and heart when I think about all that my Heavenly Father has allowed me to share in…because, after all…it’s all His, right? It’s all “my Dad’s”.

“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” 2 Peter 1:3

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17

I should be giddy about what the Lord has let me play with….not just the “toys” and material things, but the lives I’ve had the blessing of being a part of.

“Hey, look at these kids the Lord has blessed me with! I get to look over them while they’re here on earth! And they even have tools in them…unique to them! The ability to sing and write and dance…they fill me with joy!”

“Look at this wonderful wife God has blessed me with and all the tools he has put inside of her! She’s caring and wonderfully organized…a great mother and friend…and she’s smokin’ hot!”

“Hey, look at these incredibly talented Voice people I get to work with and share experiences with! Each one with their own unique, God-given tools inside!”

Thanks, Dad!
