When I’m really honest with myself, I know that one of my great weaknesses as a voice actor is that I tend to stick pretty close to my comfort zone. Now, there’s a strong argument in favor of this plan. The things that I do best are the things I’m most likely to book. And if I don’t work, well, it’s not a pretty picture. But being “comfortable” can make us boring. And you know how much work “boring” books? Exactly …
In my reading travels, I have never been a big biography reader. Even though I could probably learn something from every biography ever written (positive or negative!) Since there are so many to choose from, I have decided to begin reading some biographies on speciffic men and women who inspire me and my life. One of those that I have chosen is Walt Disney. My first biography of choice is “How to Be Like Walt” by Pat Williams. I am not all the way through it just yet, but wanted
A few weeks ago, I had a bit of a meltdown when the new database technology I had been using for the past couple of months wasn’t working properly. It wasn’t sorting the info I had painstakingly imported into the database properly. (Yes, importing info should be a simple task, but it wasn’t quite that simple).Once that type of thing happens, it really makes you question the integrity of any of the information you retrieve from a database or application. If I
I don’t put out a call or “ask” like this too often but I hope you’ll join me in voting for two nominees into the (United States) National Hall of Fame (Source: Buffalo Broadcasters Association) Two Buffalo Broadcasters have been nominated to join the National Radio Hall of Fame. Van Miller and Joey Reynolds are two heavyweights in the broadcasting business, however the competition is daunting and they need your votes to be inducted. Van Miller Van Miller was
If you ever wondered why working as a voice talent in Hollywood can be extremely tough, read the blatant negotiation tactic implemented by the producers of “FUTURAMA” below. Through my agents, I have also received a similar notice and no, I won’t be participating. Thanks anyway. I’ve not seen news reports of the entire voice cast of Futurama burning en masse in an inferno so my guess is the actors are all trying to renegotiate their contracts. Guess those talks aren’t going
What is thought to be Britain’s oldest working television has been uncovered in a house in North London. The 1936 Marconiphone, thought to have been made in the months that Britain’s first television service began, was tracked down after a competition. The set belongs to Jeffrey Borinsky, an electrical engineer and collector of antique television and radio sets. Despite its age, it can show modern TV channels broadcast on Freeview. Digital UK, the body overseeing the switch to

Garry Trafford has been with Sound Ideas for 26 years! I received an email today that he will be departing from his post at the end of July…oh, on good terms, by the way! Garry writes: In the meantime, we still have time to work one last deal before I go. Give

Turns out I have a fractured distal phalanx, the bone at the tip of the finger. I’ll be using a splint and it’ll take about 5-6 weeks to heal fully. In the meantime, I will “hunt and peck” at the keyboard, and perform audio editing and right click with alternate digits! How did this happen you may be wondering? Well I was kayaking at the Oceanside Harbor last Saturday, and we came to a brief stop at the end of one of the floating docks, which are held in place by
Happy Monday! Over the weekend I literally crushed the tip of the middle finger in my right hand during a boating accident and I’ve been in quite a bit of pain. Because it will be hard for me to type and enjoy the full use of my mouse-clicking hand, I will be posting articles of interest until the hand is “well-in-hand”.Balancing reality with “the dream” of a lucrative career in voiceover is what this article is all about.Anyone who is new to the voiceover
